A Case of Nodular Fasciitis Presenting as a Mass in Neck

Abstract

|
Nodular fasciitis is a benign proliferative fibroblastic lesion that was unknown of etiology. It is easily seemed like sarcoma and is misdiagnosed of malignancy. The patient clinically present with pain and swelling. Nodular fasciitis mainly present aggressive growing, movable, solitary subcutaneous lesion of extremities and trunks in young adults. Nodular fasciitis of the head and neck region is 10-20% in overall and mainly in infants and children, rare in adults. We report the case of a 51-year-old woman who had lobulating mass in right cervical region. Computed tomography (CT) showed focal infiltrating marginated, multilobular, heterogenous enhancing solid mass (5.0×4.5×5.0 cm) at right upper anterior neck space. And biopsy was reported uniform spindle cells in the collagenous stroma with scattered extravasated red blood cells and focal loosely textured area of stroma. Surgical excision was done. At follow up, no other complications or recurrence were observed. Thus we present the case and a review of the literature.
